What we often don't realize is that it's not just average people who fall to temptation. CELEBRITIES DO IT TOO! Joking. But seriously, important people also fall to temptation just like us.
Shlomo was just like all of us: he was presented with an opportunity -- he had so much wealth, power, and wisdom that he had the potential to be the ideal, perfect leader. Despite this opportunity, however, Shlomo was still human: he had temptations just like all of us. When he thought that he could be just like G-d, and resist temptation, he failed and therefore was not the perfect king that he could have been.
Because of this, he had his kingdom ripped away from him, the nation was split, and kicked out of the land.
Shlomo was the smartest person that ever was (and ever will be) and he gave into temptation. What does that say about our chances in resisting temptation? Or is intellect not a factor in this argument? What makes us give into temptation? Do we reason through with our logic and intellect or do we do it entirely based on desire and instinct without thinking about it?
ReplyDeleteWell, I couldn't be the one to tell you. I could just say that, especially as the new year approaches but really always, we should try to work on ourselves and make sure we don't give into temptations. Small or big. Let's be awesome moral people! But seriously.. let's do the best we can to resist temptation and be good people.
