Disappointment

In Shlomo's Kohelet we see two different characters who express their views on the world. The נהנה says that G0d is in complete control of the world therefore man has no responsibility in this world. He believes that we should enjoy the world while we are living here. Another thing that is troubling about his response is he compares us to animals. The עמל's response counteracts נהנה's in the beginning because he believes that man can make a difference in the world, and we, as people, can change the world. Even though the עמל doesn't mention G0d at first, we tend to like his answer better because it gives more positivity towards humans.

Then we learned the end of עמל's response and were disappointed to find that he also came to the conclusion that הכל הבל. First he says that man can make a difference in the world and enjoy his work. Then he makes the realization that the days G0d gives us  to work and enjoy is limited. This is where it all goes downhill. The next idea that he says is that it is not worth living at all because after you die you will be forgotten. This is how he got to his conclusion of הכל הבל which is really disappointing.

I hope this isn't the end to Kohelet because I don't want to think that this is how life is supposed to be where we don't have any worth at living. If this is the end then I am really disappointed in Mrs. Perl for showing this to us in the beginning because it is really depressing.

  1. The thought that people will forget about us after we die is actually SO scary. Sure, people may think about us for a while after we die, but what about when those people die? Who's gonna remember us then? Sorry for the morbid, depressing thoughts. Go do something happy now.
