Everybody Wants to Rule the World

Everybody Wants to Rule the World

Can man rule the world? Ha'amal's verdict is in!

Hello there, bloggers. My real name is Shlomo, but for the purposes this post, why don't you call me the Amal? Could you do that? I think you can. Unless- as the Nehaneh would say- God "predestined" you to do otherwise. (LOL- what a goon. Am I right, guys?)

How do I say this nicely? There is this guy, right, who likes to go by "the Nehaneh" aka the pleasure seeker. Well, according to him, he's looked all over under the sun and he couldn't see any justice. Somehow, he goes through a whole angsty speech and basically comes to the conclusion that because the world is such a mess, it would have been better to have never been born. (What a nutter!) According to this dude, there is no justice whatsoever by man in "this world" (but apparently there can be justice "there").  Seriously, though, the Nehaneh says that man has no accountability for his actions. I'm not making this shtuss up,he really did say this.  I know what you're thinking. Yes, I am the sane one of the group.

I'm the "Amal", you know- the worker. Sometimes people call my Bob the Builder but I don't really get that reference (is it a compliment or an insult?). You know what I have to say about the world? It's pretty simple: MAN is in control. MAN can make a difference.
Is that too hard to get behind?
Of course not! We all know from living that we CAN make a difference in the world. That we can control the world. MAN can get rid of the injustice and make the world a better place. Am I saying that we're supposed to be Batman? No.. but something like that. We can do it! We've got the power! Woo-hoo! Man can rule the world, save the world, you name it!
The Justice League/ Every Person
Okay, as I'm writing this, though, I've just noticed a couple of things that could be a little wrong with this philosophy... (full disclosure: Hanehaneh is still crazier than I am)...

First of all, if all we do is work and toil, there's bound to be some greedy competition. Also, what will happen if you don't have an heir? What will happen to all your work? I mean, maybe justice can be served by having people work together..maybe in 3s..you know, maybe just have a system with a king. Oh, but then if there's a king then in the future even the wealthiest, most powerful king will ultimately be an old fool! So that doesn't really work out, now does it? I can tell you from experience- I am, after all, a very successful king. And if I can't accomplish this, I think it's fair to say that nobody can.
GAHH it's all hevel, isn't it? How did I know it would come to this? Everything is Hevel!

Peace, yall. Maybe I'll be back later with some refinements of my philosophy.

Sincerely, the worker

Food for thought:
-To what extent do you think man/woman/a person is in control over the world?
-Do you think people are in control of their own destinies?
-Whose philosophy makes more sense: hanehaneh's or ha'amal's?
-If Ha'amal added God into his philosophy, would it be prettier?

  1. First of all, this post is just really pretty (and very long).
Second of all, nice use of goon.
Third of all, it's nanner not nutter.
Fourth of all, NOT EVERYTHING IS HEVEL MR. AMAL. And man is notttt in 100% control you crazy nut. There has to be a balance between the two! I agree with you that the Nehaneh is just a little off his rocker but all you're doing is going to the opposite extreme.
Fifth of all, I think that man has a certain degree of control but they can only do so much with G-d above him. I think people can choose their actions, which will then in turn predict their destiny - but G-d is ultimately the one who decides. I think there has to be a balance between the nehaneh and the amal. I think if Amal could add a little G-d and tone down on the MAN IS FANTASTIC AND CAN DO EVERYTHIGN WAHOo - it's be prettier.
    That's all for now.

  2. Well, Amal, your post provided some excellent food for thought. So here are some of my thoughts on something you alluded to in your post and which you put at the end: destiny. Are we in control, or are we not? Are our lives truly ours? I'm not really sure, but I heard this thought formulated somewhere and I think it is very interesting. Imagine G-d as an author or a screenplay writer. He has an idea of the "big picture" of where the plot is going to go, but not exactly how he is going to connect point A to point B. This he leaves up to us. It is possible that we have an end goal already set, but how we get there is up to us. It is even possible that we could have set paths to get there, but the decision making is up to us.
